Prayers for all of them. This is a nightmare I can only begin to comprehend. I once worked in a downtown parish in a poor, rural community and I had my share of scary encounters. I realized then that the Gospel really is a risk, one very much worth taking. We could shut ourselves down and turn inward for our own security, or we could be brave enough to keep reaching out in love to those around us. There was only so much we could do with limited resources, and one of the hardest things to learn was to how to say “no” with gentleness and love, but every encounter was worth it. We don’t know all the details here, but my heartfelt prayers for the people of St. Peter’s, Ellicott City, and especially for the Brewington family.
